Incredibly, scholars have found a way to teach an adult a second language without the time-consuming and tedious memorizing of grammar rules and vocabulary. My first contact with the method I use to teach was as a student in England, then later as an instructor.
My course is one-on-one interactive, so you start speaking in the first minutes of your first lesson. The concept is simple; teach you to speak a second language the same way you learned to speak your native language e.g., first hear and understand, repeat (speak), read and eventually write. I would say that 2 hours per week is the minimum if you really want to be fluent. In some programs they use the word "fast track", but I don't like that word. It makes the huge task of learning another language sound like you should be able to do it quickly, and it's proven that if you try to learn too fast, you will just as quickly forget!

My approach to learning languages is the Communicative Approach. All activities proposed aim at communicating in the target language since the first lessons avoiding the use of mother tongue as much as possible. My focus is on a holistic model to understand the complexities of the language and be an autonomous learner as well, as the process of learning a language is a continuous one. The activities are planned using a different range of authentic materials and focusing on different language skills.

I believe, given my experience both as teacher and as student, that to learn a foreign language you have to start constructing your thoughts in the very language. Translations are useful and necessary in the beginning but, as the student makes progress, speaking the new language - regardless of how much he/she know of it - will help internalize the way it is structured. |
