I encourage as much interaction with the Deaf community as possible, and am willing to accompany students to various deaf events to promote socialization. It is a fun language to learn, and there is a story behind most signs. Learning the story of why each sign means what it does helps you not only to remember the sign but to appreciate how it was derived.
I use a lot of games to help you practice and learn the language. I apply the bilingual methods and theories to my teaching that I am currently learning through a course in bilingual education for English and ASL. |
