In total, I have taught more than 20 beginners, 10 intermediate and 8 advanced students with different focus on Writing, Reading, Speaking and Listening.
Generally, my classes are quite flexible and largely depend on the learner's needs. We can use textbooks, if necessary. Usually I design my own syllabus according to the student's needs.
With beginners, I usually teach in English so that the student can understand basic grammar and characters, building a sound foundation for further study.
With intermediate and advanced learners, communicative competence is the teaching and learning focus. Therefore, certain topics, such as Chinese idioms and culture, are discussed in class.
