Then I make choices of lessons best fit for him/her. I do not follow a particular syllabus because I know each student is different in many ways. I prepare lessons suited to my student's learning language level. I make sure that my student feels confident when I teach him/her. The more engaged the student is, the more inclined is s/he to learn the language. I also believe in positive reinforcement -- for both young and not-so-young students. This helps boost every student's confidence. All classes are also flexible and negotiable. I design learning experiences based on what the students want to learn, their strengths, and what I believe they need. Content-wise, I believe in the power of picture-word association. Students find it easier to remember things that they both see and hear. Using the learnt words in their proper context through conversation also helps promote better recall. Because Tagalog is phonetic, I believe students must first learn the correct pronunciation of letters and diagraphs before anything else. I also do summative assessment through handwritten and/or oral exams.
