I am an experienced English teacher specialized in Italian, French, Romanian, ESL and American-English language and cultural studies, and European Studies, with over 21 years of teaching experience in the United States and Europe. I have taught American diplomats in Washington DC as well as numerous private students in Dallas-Fort Worth, where I run a successful language training firm.
Being a European-born American now speaking English at a native level after a lifetime of study, I am in the position to provide methods and linguistic “shortcuts” that can be easily grasped by foreign learners. All exercises and information are specifically adapted to each student’s needs. We use extensive country-specific TV sources, role playing, literature, college tests, and field trips in our classes designed for beginner-advanced levels.
My classes are very intensive; generally you will see results and you will be able to understand a complex text after the first 2-h lesson. Immersion progr... |

We teach grammar in a humorous way, with the help of games and plays, but at the same time we refer it professionally to English grammar.
With the students we also discover the richness of our culture (music, history, literature, cuisine, fashion).

My classes are designed to help students improve their oral and written expression as well as reading comprehension. In order to achieve these results, I have an inter-active approach that is tailored to the individual student's learning needs. Since the individual needs of each student vary, I provide additional materials to supplement textbook exercises. Approximately 50% of the lesson is total immersion/conversation. I usually assign homework and intermediate students are encouraged to read French literature and prepare compositions for review in class. |

If I have to summarize my teaching philosophy I would do it in two words: In context. All languages share a common context that most human beings are able to understand. Learning vocabulary for example can be much easier if we learn words as part of meaningful sentences and not only in lists. It is my belief that "Language in Action" is usually the most dynamic and efficient way to approach learning a foreign language.
I also teach online classes. Contact me for more info. Please check my rates before contacting me. Thank you. |

Language learning is about skills acquisition. Vocabulary, Phonics, Grammar. I will learn from you what your language experience has been and will design a custom program to help you reach your personal goals. This is a realistic, intense, effective approach to language learning. * Mr. Cerles is a gifted instructor due to his fluent command of languages and his ability to quickly and accurately gauge his students’ understanding of French. He then crafts individual sessions and between-session assignments that push the student to learn more without overwhelming him or her. * Mr. Cerles is professional and mature but also a very warm individual. His unique combination of experience, skills and personal traits will make Mr. Cerles an outstanding addition to any faculty. Other references available upon request. |

I have learned fluently two other very different languages and studied another. The process of language learning in adulthood, I understand because I have experienced it myself and because I have studied it at the master's level. There is not one approach in my teaching. I tailor the methods and exercises to the student and the skill that I am teaching. Eclectic. |

I believe each student's program should be designed to meet that student's overall goal for learning the language. For students who are already studying a languge formally, I do support a grammar based approach mixed with activities for listening comprehension and speaking development. For students who are simply interested in learning conversational language, perhaps for a vacation, I focus more on teaching common phrases and vocabulary that will make for a more enjoyable experience while visiting places where the target language is used. |
