With 30 years of experience at all levels, from beginners of all ages up to and including Masters and PhD students and in a variety of languages, I currently teach students worldwide on Skype, phone, text, email, etc.
I like to make language learning interesting and enjoyable, as well as effective, and my students have consistently achieved a very high record of success at all levels.
I teach all age groups and my tutoring is tailor-made to the needs and interests of each student.
I have lived, worked and travelled in many parts of the world, learning, teaching and using my languages.I am very international-minded.
I encourage and foster an interest and love for the culture, history and literature of each language in addition to teaching speaking, reading, writing and listening.

I adopt various teaching methods in order for non-native speakers to learn a second language effectively and enjoyably.
I perceive that the priority and aim in learning the Japanese language greatly vary depending on the individual, from mastering everyday conversation, pronouncing as if they were native speakers, writing business letters, to teaching the own language in Japan. Therefore the method is to be in accordance with the purpose;
For instance, for beginners who have just decided to bite the bullet, it is important to grasp the general ideas of the Japanese language, and for those who are in intermediate level and want the first step for careers in Japan in the future, it is preferable to focus on a certain dimension of Japanese, as official way of speaking Japanese is totally different from that of in casual way of speaking.
I am a relaxed person with patience and years of teaching experience in different settings such as schools, corporate offices, private lessons ... |

I believe that repetition has one of the most important keys to mastering languages. So, I offer free online practice videos to work on pronunciations and sentence structures so my students can practice many times outside the lessons. I can help you with writing, reading, speaking, and the grammar. I also specialize in accent reduction. I'm very good at helping my students speak like native Japanese speakers. I use a textbook but I'm also flexible to tailor lessons to the student's specific needs. I like to teach practical Japanese. I teach what schools do not cover. I can also explain confusing grammatical areas or kanji that schools leave out.
Many people tend to get nervous during the lessons because they don't want to make mistakes or feel embarrassed. But, the more nervous you get, the less you learn. So, I give my students a few good laughs at every lesson, which helps them immensely! My lessons are fun! |

We teach grammar in a humorous way, with the help of games and plays, but at the same time we refer it professionally to English grammar.
With the students we also discover the richness of our culture (music, history, literature, cuisine, fashion).

For conversation, I believe games and situational setups are great ways to give people confidence in speaking through repetition without using endless, boring drills. Learning is different for everyone and I am adaptive enough to take the student's needs into account on the fly. Best of all, a little humor is the best spice to flavor your language experience, so let's get cooking! |

Some testimonies from my students. ==== I have been wanting to study the Japanese language for years but have been hesitant due to limited free time being a student and hearing from some people that they have stopped lessons after a few months. I happened to come across Can sensei’s blog and seeing the class schedule which was weekly and that class fees were very reasonable, I decided to give it a shot and take his classes.
After a few 1-on-1 sessions, I joined one of the beginner classes which was already into the 6th week. During this time I was struggling due to lack of time to revise as I was working on an almost full-time schedule and having other trainings. Can sensei took note of this and gave me make-up lessons to revise in his free time, also giving me advice to manage my time after starting university. Today, I’ve been able revise regularly and able to keep up in classes.
The class I am in is definitely enjoyable with hardworking and positive classmates and makes it e... |
