There are three groups of learners with:
Roman-alphabetic /French, German or Spanish/,
Non-Roman alphabetic /Arabic, Greek, Korean, Russian or Thai/
and Non-alphabetic /Chinese or Japanese/ backgrounds.
According to this my Teaching Approach is specified in using different methods:
* The Audio-Lingual Method;
* The Silent Way;
* Total Physical Response;
* Suggestopedia.
These are methods which improve learner's phonemic awareness, phonological processing skills and text comprehension ability.
It sounds a bit complicated, but the learner should not worry about this. What I need from him/her is TO BE EAGER TO LEARN the foreign language.

Learning a new language can be a very daunting task, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. Therefore, I believe that students should learn to laugh at themselves as they progress in their study of any non-native language. This fundamental ability can ease the frustration all language students experience from time to time. Hence, my teaching approach is a lighthearted one – I use humor to establish rapport and to curb frustration as I guide students in their acquisition of English or Russian.
For beginning students, I primarily focus my lessons on learning grammar rules and new vocabulary. My secondary focus covers speaking and listening. I believe this division of priorities works best for the beginning adult language learner; adults first need rules and words in order to then produce and perceive any new language. As time goes by, I fine tune this division based on the student's progress and goals. |
